The life and times of Australia's Baby Boomer generation

Almost Baby Boomers

By definition, Baby Boomers are those persons born between the years 1946 and 1964 inclusive, however there were people born outside of those dates who influenced the Baby Boomer years and in many ways were an essential part of them. Though not strictly Baby Boomers, having been born either too early or too late, they deserve some recognition. After all, Baby Boomers did adopt The Who song, 'My Generation' as their own, believing that it referred to them. Pete Townshend, who wrote the song, was in fact born seven months before the Baby Boomer generation began, so by definition, he's not a Baby Boomer. Thus, when he writes about 'my generation' he's technically not talking about Baby Boomers at all!

To be fair then, since Baby Boomers took Pete's song and made it their own, Boomers are under some sort of obligation to take Pete and the rest of 'his generation' (The Beatles, Rolling Stones, Bob Dylan etc) and make them part of 'their' generation too. This must also apply to the tail-enders, who must not be denied the joys of Baby Boomerhood just because their parents took their time answering the Government's call to populate or perish. And besides, who wouldn't want to be have the likes of Nicole Kidman, Mick Doohan, Princess Stephanie of Monaco, Mark Woodforde, Tina Arena and the creator of Harry Potter, J.K. Rowling, as part of their generation?
